Seahawks versus Dolphins: 3 quick predictions for week four
By Lee Vowell
The Seattle Seahawks try to move to 4-0 on Sunday versus the Miami Dolphins.
The Seahawks are off to a great start offensively. So far, the defense is the issue for Seattle. Seattle is second in points scored with an average of 37 a game. But Seattle is 22nd in points allowed giving up an average of 28.7. In the last two weeks, Seattle has given up 30 points or more in each game.
Plus, the Seahawks will be missing several defensive players due to injury. This includes safety Jamal Adams and cornerback Quintin Dunbar. A completely healthy Seattle defense has struggled this year so what can 12s expect from a depleted one?
So what will happen when Seattle plays the Dolphins in week four? Here are three quick guesses.
The Seahawks will have eight explosive plays
The definition of an explosive play is a run or pass that goes for 20 yards or more. In 2020, the Miami defense has allowed 15 explosive runs, which ranks next to last in the NFL. And the Dolphins defense has given up 11 explosive pass plays, which is 28th in the league.
The Seahawks offense has 20 explosive plays overall and this is 12th in the NFL. Russell Wilson and Seattle like to throw the ball deep and Miami could be without cornerback Byron Jones. Expect D.K. Metcalf to have three receptions that go over 20 yards and Tyler Lockett will get two more. Throw in some explosive runs and Seattle’s offense will have a good day.
The Seahawks will give up 28 points
As I already mentioned, Seattle’s defense isn’t very good so far. Sure, they have faced three good quarterbacks this season but this is the same defense who allowed Matt Schaub to throw for 460 yards against them last season. Maybe there should be a change at defensive coordinator in Seattle? Or maybe the players aren’t as good as 12s think they are? Whatever the issue, the Dolphins will score 28 points in week four and Ryan Fitzpatrick will throw for nearly 400 yards.
The game will be closer than most think
The Seahawks will win on Sunday 41-35. At one point in the game, Seattle will lead by 17 points but the Dolphins will return a punt for a touchdown to start a comeback. The score will be 38-35 late in the fourth quarter before a late Jason Myers field goal. Russell Wilson will throw for five touchdowns again. At the end of it all, though, Seattle will be 4-0.
