The Seahawks are signing defensive tackle Damon Harrison to the practice squad.

Rejoice, 12s! The Seahawks have added another run stuffer on the interior of the defensive line in Damon “Snacks” Harrison. This is according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. But you are going to have to wait a minute before you see him in real games for Seattle. Harrison was signed to the practice squad.

Damon Harrison‘s signing long-term should be a good one as far as the Seahawks continuing to be better at stopping the run this year. Between 2013 and 2016, Harrison was the highest-graded run-stuffer in the NFL. And every once in a while he could chase down an opposing quarterback.

Harrison debated retiring this offseason but decided just after the season started to play again. He entertained the thought of going to the Packers and other places but probably decided the Seahawks gave him a chance at winning something big in 2020 while also helping at a position of need.

Of course, the practice squad is a different form this year than in year’s past. NFL teams can keep up to 16 players on the unit and make two of the eligible to be active each week. Harrison’s signing to the squad means he is likely not yet in good enough shape to help Seattle. Harrison is a big guy so hopefully, he isn’t too out of shape as it would take him longer to get in football condition than say a receiver.

Seahawks still need more

Harrison’s signing still doesn’t fix the biggest problem the Seahawks have on defense. That would be pass rush. At this point in his career, Harrison is going to eat up running backs and blockers but probably not put much pressure on the quarterback.

dark. Next. 5 takeaways from Seahawks week four victory

So Seattle still needs more on defense. But once Harrison is ready, he should join a rotation that includes Jarran Reed and Poona Ford and allow those guys to get more rest. Harrison is a proven quality defensive tackle, but Seattle still needs a good defensive end.
