Seahawks week five MVP: large and very fast man, DK Metcalf
The Seahawks got off to a terrible start vs the Vikings, but thanks to the heroics of wide receiver DK Metcalf, Action Green wins the day once more.
Let me begin by with a pubic plea: dear Seahawks, could you please take it easy on us one of these days? As if 2020 didn’t have enough stress, you guys have to take every game down to the last minute and even the last play. Okay, that being said, wow. Love the fight, and love the determination – especially of my week five MVP, wide receiver DK Metcalf.
Before you start in on me, yeah, I know that Russell Wilson has to throw the ball to him. Relax, I’ll get to Number Three soon enough. I’d also like to mention a certain gentleman on the defense, Mr. K.J. Wright. He may have only had three tackles, but he literally turned this game around. Yes, I’ll get to that another time as well. It literally took me hours to decide which of the alphabet guys I’d take as the MVP. I can easily see the choice of K.J., but for me, it has to be the second-year phenom.
Metcalf tied with Chris Carson for the team lead with six catches and led the Seahawks with 93 yards. Most importantly he brought in two scores, including the winning touchdown with just 15 seconds on the clock. Yes, thanks for making me hold my breath for the last few minutes of the game, guys. Again. Okay, back to the play. Metcalf handled an absolute rocket from Wilson on the winning touchdown like he had number 16 on his jersey.

Even more importantly, he turned his body to shield the ball from Vikings safety Harrison Smith to make it count. Just two plays before, Wilson hit Metcalf with the winning score – except that corner Mike Hughes punched the ball free. Really, Seahawks; really? Why must we suffer – okay, sorry. It just makes the games more exciting, right? Right?
So, Metcalf not only made the play, but he learned from his previous “mistake”. I don’t really think of it as a mistake, but a great play by Hughes. Still, Metcalf made the great catch and then protected the ball. In my book, that’s two great plays in one. Not bad for a guy who was supposedly just big and fast, but had suspect hands and couldn’t run routes, right?
Oh, I forgot to mention that his touchdown catch was on fourth down. No pressure, right? And there’s the little issue of the 39-yard bomb he caught earlier on the winning drive. Yeah, that was on fourth down, too. All of this was after Metcalf scored the touchdown that put Seattle ahead for the first time in the game in that wild 21-point outburst in the third quarter.
When the team needed a touchdown, Wilson looked to Metcalf on three straight plays. I wouldn’t go so far as to say the big man is the new favorite target; Tyler Lockett has 38 targets and Metcalf just one more. This night was more about matchups. Granted, Metcalf is almost always going to be a nightmare matchup. But tonight, he was definitely the game MVP
