The Seattle Seahawks just keep winning and are now 5-0

At this point, it’s obvious that the Seattle Seahawks care little about what they do to the 12’s heart rates throughout a game but after a 5-0 start, can anyone complain? In the end, Russell Wilson chilled the Vikings with a cold-blooded 94-yard drive that ended in a D.K Metcalf game-winning grab.

That unbeaten record sure looks sweet but at times this season, the Seahawks have been a beautiful struggle.

Week 1– Atlanta Falcons 38-25 (W)

Week 2– New England Patriots 35-30 (W)

Week 3 – Dallas Cowboys 38-31 (W)

Week 4 – Miami Dolphins 31-23 (W)

Week 5 – Minnesota Vikings 27-26 (W)

Clearly, the Seahawks decided that not only would they #LetRussCook but they also were going to ensure that by the end of the season, the “game of the year” would be one in which they took place in.

In all seriousness, these close games could deem problematic down the road so head coach Pete Carroll and crew will definitely have to clean things up, but for now, the Seahawks record shows that they are flawless and their quarterback is playing at an all-time level.

How it happened

Time and time again, Wilson has shown that when the Emerald City needs him to make a play, he’ll usually go get it done. With their undefeated record on the line, he dissected the Minnesota Vikings while converting twice on fourth down to lift the ‘Hawks to victory.

Throughout the opening half, it seemed like maybe Seattle just didn’t have the juice that night. Not only were they being smothered by the Vikings defense but they also were being picked apart by Kirk Cousins and the offense. It was dreadful.

The second half was a completely different story. Perhaps Coach Carroll did his best Al Pacino impression and reenacted his riveting speech from “Any Given Sunday” or perhaps Russ passed around Bug Bunny’s bottle of “Mike’s Secret Stuff”.

Or maybe the Seattle Seahawks realized that they are Super Bowl contenders and to become champions, they must respond to adversity by showing excellence.

At the start of the second half, they trailed 13-0 to the Vikes’ but after an explosion of momentum in the third quarter, the Seahawks found themselves with a 21-19 lead heading into the final frame.

After Kirk Cousins found Adam Thielen for a six-yard touchdown, Seattle was now down 26-21. Fast forward later into the quarter and Minnesota had a decision to make. Go for it on 4th-and-1 or kick the field goal and go up 29-21. They elected to go for it and suddenly the offense that had been so hard to stop all night long…was stopped.

With an opportunity to go win the game, Wilson and the offense marched down the field in 1:41 as they went 94 yards in 13 plays. The drive ended with Russ’s cold-blooded throw to D.K. Metcalf to put the game on ice.

Russ for MVP?

This game may prove to be a pivotal one in Russell Wilson’s MVP campaign. Seattle’s gunslinger is playing at an all-time level, he now has 19 touchdowns, 3 interceptions and 1,502 yards while going 123/169 (72% completion rate!).

At this rate, ESPN projects him to throw 61 touchdowns, 10 interceptions for 4,806 yards. Now, who knows how likely that is, but what is known is that Seattle will be a dangerous threat out of the NFC West if he continues this level of play.

By the numbers

If you were to check the stats from this game, you would assume that the Seahawks lost.

The Seahawks earned 18 first downs while going 0-7 on 3rd and 2-2 on 4th down while the Vikings had 31 first downs and went 6-14 on 3rd, 2-3 on 4th.

Minnesota ran 83 plays to Seattle’s 52 which allowed them to outgain Seattle 449 to 314 in total yards.

Seattle turned the ball over once but forced two turnovers by the Vikings but that’s nothing compared to the time of possession. The Vikings were in control of the ball for 39:28 while the Seahawks only held it for 20:32.

Once again, if you checked the stats to this game, you’d think that Seattle lost.

Who’s next?

Next up for Seattle is the Arizona Cardinals on October 25th in Phoenix. The Cardinals currently are 3-2 but will play the Dallas Cowboys before the battle of the birds.

Next. Seahawks need to fire Ken Norton Jr but they won't. dark

This matchup will be the Seahawks first against an NFC West opponent this year as look to advance to 6-0.
