Offensive MVP

Russell Wilson, of course

I don’t want to be cute here and say anyone else but Russell Wilson. Seattle’s quarterback is probably the leading MVP candidate in the NFL through six weeks. Wilson has 19 touchdown passes and just 3 interceptions so far (one interception was Greg Olsen’s fault and not Wilson’s). His quarterback rating is 129.8. Again, that is 129.8. The highest ever in a single season is Aaron Rodgers’ 2011 season when Rodgers’ QBR was 122.5.

In fact, Wilson leads the NFL in touchdown passes, touchdown percentage (11.2 percent), yards per pass attempt (11.2), QBR and net yards per pass attempt (8.6). Wilson is on pace for 61 touchdown passes and 4,806 yards passing. The yards passing would be Wilson’s career-high. The 61 touchdown passes would shatter the NFL record.

The one concern might be that Wilson’s QBR has gotten worse (if that is the right word to use) with each successive game in 2020. He started with 143.1 and in week five was 100.7. Wilson has also held on to the ball a bit longer the last two weeks which is something he wasn’t doing nearly as much in the first three games when the offense was scoring 35 points or more in each game.

Still, where would the Seahawks be without Russell Wilson in 2020 (and any other year really)? Likely a sub-.500 team. Wilson makes the Seahawks better than the sum of their parts.
