Defense

Michael Dickson

Michael Dickson? Can I be serious? He’s not even technically a defensive player. Or is he? Seattle drafted Dickson to be a “defensive weapon.” He has been that. One of the reasons that the Seahawks have given up so many yards in 2020 is because Dickson has done his job so well.

Plus, let’s be honest, the defense has been so bad overall that giving credit to anyone other than Dickson would be unfair to how great Dickson has been. Sure, K.J. Wright has been really good and Bobby Wagner, as always, has been good. But judging for purely doing one’s job at a high level, Dickson has to be Seattle’s best defensive player.

Dickson is fourth in yards per punt (49.6), third in net yards per punt (45.1) and first in punts downed inside the opponent’s 20-yard line (14). Let me put it another way, 64 percent of the time Dickson punts, he pins the other team inside its own 20.

If the rest of the defense did its job (or maybe was better coached?) as well as Dickson does his, Seattle would blow nearly every team out. The sad part is that most people won’t notice how great Dickson has been until he has a bad punt or two.
