Here are five quick gifts the Seahawks have given 12s so far in 2020.

Merry Christmas, 12s! So far we Seahawks fans have gotten our Christmas wish as the Seahawks are in first place in the NFC West through week 15 and have clinched a playoff spot. If Seattle wins on Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams, they will clinch the division title and get a home playoff game in the first round of the playoffs.

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves yet. Let’s quickly celebrate five things the Seahawks have given us so far this season.

Acquiring Carlos Dunlap and Jamal Adams

Seattle’s defense was really slow in being a decent group this year but has definitely improved as the year has gone on. (There is no argument to this. At one point the Seahawks defense was historically the worst ever.) One reason for the defense’s improvement is that Jamal Adams has been healthy for the last few weeks. A second reason is that Seattle acquired defensive end Carlos Dunlap midway through the year and he has made a huge difference in the pass rush.

The gift for 12s is that both these guys are good and will be on the roster in 2021 as well.

Healthy running backs late in the year

You may have blacked out last year as far as the running back health went. At the end of 2019, Seattle was forced to re-sign Marshawn Lynch to be the lead back and Travis Homer was his backup. That was because Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny had been lost for the season with injuries. But this year, not only do the Seahawks have Carson healthy going into week 16 but Penny is back after being out for a year and Carlos Hyde is available too. That’s good stuff.

Russell Wilson has played another season entirely through week 15

How does Russell Wilson do it? He seems to play every snap of every year and maintains a high level of play even while playing through injuries we Seahawks fans probably know nothing about. This season, Wilson missed a lot of the fourth quarter against the Jets. Why Because for once he allowed his backup to enter the game because Seattle was so far ahead even playing Jamal Adams at quarterback for Seattle would not have changed the outcome.

Jason Myers and Michael Dickson

Seattle might lose games the rest of the season but it won’t be because of their special teams. Michael Dickson, though not voted to the Pro Bowl because people are stupid, is the best punter in the league. Dickson is fourth in the NFL in net-yards-per-punt (44.1) but second in yards-per-punt (49.4) and leads the NFL in punts downed inside the opponent’s 20-yard line (27). He’s the best punter in the league.

And Myers hasn’t missed a field goal attempt this year out of 20 attempts and is 13 for 13 in attempts beyond 40 yards, with a long of 61 yards.

Next. Where would the Seahawks have been without Russell Wilson these last 8 seasons?. dark

The rookies

Seattle chose well in 2020. Right guard Damien Lewis has been a starter, and a good one, from week one. Defensive end Alton Robinson still hasn’t gotten enough snaps but has 3 sacks and 4 tackles for loss. Jordyn Brooks is still a backup at this point but has shown himself to be quick with the ability to tackle which will help him when he becomes the starter at linebacker in the near future. And receiver Freddie Swain has caught 65 percent of his targets (20 targets) and 2 touchdowns. A very solid group.
