Damon Harrison and Seahawks will part ways after he asks to be released, per report
By Lee Vowell
Damon “Snacks” Harrison has asked the Seattle Seahawks to release him and the team intends to do so.
The Seattle Seahawks signed defensive tackle Damon “Snacks” Harrison this season to help with run defense. Seattle then waited for Harrison to get into football shape and Harrison finally played in week 10. But Seattle made Harrison inactive for week 16’s Seattle versus Los Angeles Rams contest and Harrison has asked to be released and Seattle will do so.
To be fair, Harrison hasn’t done much as a member of the team. He has 9 tackles in six games and 6 of those tackles came in week 14 when Seattle blew out the New York jets 40-3. In two of his six games with the team, Harrison didn’t record a tackle.
Harrison wasn’t playing a ton either but was simply part of the rotation of interior defensive linemen. He played 23 snaps against the Jets (43 percent of Seattle’s defensive snaps) but didn’t play more than 39 percent of snaps in any other game.
Seahawks rotation
Meanwhile, defensive tackle Poona Ford regularly plays 60 percent or more of the team’s snaps and is consistently much more productive. The Seahawks best defensive tackle Jarran Reed has played 76 percent of the snaps this season.
Seattle also activated Bryan Mone from the injured reserve list for week 16 and Mone’s addition meant Harrison wasn’t going to play. While Mone plays even fewer snaps than Harrison did, Mone is also 25 years old and 366 pounds and has shown in brief flashes that he can be a very serviceable defensive tackle in the NFL.
Still, for Harrison to ask to be released so late in the season and for the Seahawks to grant this request is odd. Harrison still graded out pretty well, according to Pro Football Focus. So maybe something else was going on that 12s aren’t aware of. Or Harrison simply got tired of being made inactive earlier in the season after he signed with the Seahawks and felt it was a slap in the face to him make him inactive now.
