Seattle Seahawks: 5 takeaways from Week 17 win over 49ers

Flawless football leads to wins
The Seattle Seahawks have finished the season with a stellar record of 12-4. A large reason for that was the great start this Seattle offense got off too. Coming into the season, the major headline surrounding this team was whether or not they were going to open up the offense more and Let Russ Cook. Well, they certainly did and it seemed to be working as they were nearly unstoppable.
But, after a couple of injuries and porous games, this Seattle offense lost a step. In the four losses on the season, the one common denominator was the turnovers. Yes, the offensive line contributed to the losses as their poor pass protection led Wilson to make some poor decisions. But, when you take away the turnovers, this team becomes very hard to defeat. On the year, the Seahawks are 7-0 when Russell Wilson throws 0 interceptions.
Over the past two weeks alone, Wilson has masked the poor play of this offensive line. We have seen him use his feet more to get first downs. We have seen him hold onto the ball too long and take sacks. The point being is, he is eliminating turnovers. Ever since Pete Carroll arrived in Seattle, he has focused on winning the turnover differential in every game.
People have been critical of Wilson and this passing offense over the last three games. In fact, they have had the worst passing offense over the last three games. But yet, they won all three games. I’m not saying this type of play can continue, but, the silver lining is that Wilson is being smarter with the ball. 12s would rather have fewer passing yards and more wins as opposed to more passing yards, more turnovers and fewer wins. Football is a game of inches and typically, the smarter team is able to walk out on top.
On a closing note, I personally thought it was awesome to see Wilson call an audible to get David Moore his incentive.

That’s what leadership is. This is why this team can make a deep playoff run. It is a closely knitted locker room that believes in each other and has each other’s back. I, for one, am looking forward to this postseason run.
