The Seattle Seahawks still need an offensive coordinator after they fired former OC Brian Schottenheimer last week. To be honest, I am a bit surprised Seattle hasn’t hired a new OC yet but maybe a longer than expected (for me anyway) search will be a good thing. No need to rush such an important decision.

But former Philadelphia Eagles coach Doug Pederson no longer appears to be an option. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Pederson is “leaning toward taking the next year off and preparing for [the] next season.” What Pederson would hope to prepare for would be a head coaching job and not a coordinator position.

Pederson taking a year off and not coming to the Seahawks is probably a good thing. Seattle needs an offensive coordinator to be with the team for more than one season to build chemistry with Russell Wilson. If Pederson were to actually take the Seattle job and the offense does as well as 12s and Pete Carroll would hope, that would only make Pederson a more marketable person for another head coaching job in 2022.

I do think Pederson would work well in Seattle as he knows how to scheme an excellent running game and works well with most quarterbacks. Whether he can make Wilson better is in question but the offense overall would probably be more consistent while also being a bit more imaginative.

Seahawks interested in Kirby Wilson

Meanwhile, NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport tweeted that Seattle is also expected to speak with Kirby Wilson of the Las Vegas Raiders. Wilson is the Raiders running backs coach but has not interviewed to an offensive coordinator anywhere since 2014.

This could mean quite a few things. It might mean that Wilson is really good at being a running backs coach as he is still employed doing so after several seasons but that no team thinks he is good enough to be an offensive coordinator. Or maybe he simply hasn’t gotten his chance. He might with Seattle.
