Bryan Mone

Pete Carroll has always preached stopping the run first. On Saturday, the Seahawks did a terrible job of that. Las Vegas’s two main backs of the night, Trey Ragas and B.J. Emmons, gained 107 yards on 22 carries. A lot of these yards came straight up the middle where the interior of the Seattle lined was absolutely gashed by a bunch of Raiders backup offensive linemen.

The problem with this when it comes to Bryan Mone is that Mone is battling for the starting spot next to fellow defensive tackle Poona Ford. Ford didn’t play on Saturday as there is no reason to risk Ford being hurt so Mone struggled not knowing what to expect from the guys playing next to him.

But Mone’s strength, supposedly, is that he is stout against the run. Against the Raiders, Mone did have a tackle-for-loss (his only tackle) and a quarterback hit but he was in the game a lot and didn’t do the one job that Seattle thinks he can do: stop the run.

Seattle has two obvious defensive units where they could struggle in 2021. One is at cornerback. The other is at defensive tackle. Mone needs to play better soon or the worry that the Seahawks won’t stop the run this year is going to grow.
