The Seahawks are still seemingly searching for the right fit at cornerback with just a few days before the start of the 2021 season. Seattle has made several moves over the last two weeks including trading Ahkello Witherspoon, trading for Sidney Jones and John Reid and signing Bless Austin.
In fact, they have made so many moves to find cornerbacks who can help in 2021 I feel like I missed one or two moves over the last few weeks. All the trades and signings makes it seem like Seattle is a bit desperate to find the right guys. If a team knew they were secure at a position, why would they bother with making so many moves right before the season?
Maybe the corners Seattle currently has on its roster will be fine but for a team as talented as the Seahawks cornerback could be its Achilles heel. Maybe a few more signings should take place?
Seahawks could still sign these free agent CBs for 2021
I realize Thorpe is not going to make a huge difference as an outside corner for the Seahawks but he still knows the system. Also, Thorpe is an excellent special teams player and could replace Ben Burr-Kirven who was hurt in preseason and will miss the season. Thorpe is also a great guy in the locker room and was a captain on the team just last year.
Is Thorpe needed to be a shutdown corner? No. But signing Thorpe for all the rest of the reasons I mentioned helps the team overall. Plus, signing Thorpe would come at a low cost and means Seattle would likely still have money to sign another corner on this list.
