Seahawks report card: Failing grades for week 5 loss to Rams
By Lee Vowell
Rest of the grades on the Seahawks offense
Running backs
Seattle’s running backs ran for 59 yards on 20 carries, a 2.95-yard average. While this lack of production is based just as much on the offensive line blocking, Seattle clearly missed starter Chris Carson (Carson missed the game with a neck injury) who is able to churn out more yards than normal backs. Seattle’s backs combined for 70 yards receiving, though that means they had more receiving yards than rushing yards.
Grade: C+
Receivers/tight end
D.K. Metcalf was great catching all of his 5 targets for 95 yards and 2 touchdowns. Will Dissly got more involved once Geno Smith came into the game and that is a good sign moving forward. Tyler Lockett wasn’t bad but tripped on a Smith pass in the fourth quarter that resulted in an interception.
Grade: B-
Offensive line
This is where things start to go south for the Seahawks grades. The offensive line couldn’t open holes for the running backs and the lack of run blocking cost Seattle early in the game when Seattle went for a run on third and two and DeeJay Dallas got stuffed and then on 4th and two on the next play Alex Collins got tackled for a loss that ended the drive. Left tackle Duane Brown was called for holding that negated a touchdown pass to Freddie Swain in the second quarter and then Jason Myers missed a field goal so the holding call was a momentum killer.
Grade: D+
