Can Alex Collins be the new Chris Carson?

Chris Carson might be out for a long time. On Friday, Seattle placed Russell Wilson and Carson on IR. This means Carson and Wilson will have to miss a minimum of three games and this starts with Sunday’s game against the Steelers. After Sunday, Seattle plays the Saints in week 7 and then the Jaguars in week 8 and then, thankfully, has a bye week.

Rashaad Penny (yes, he is still on the Seahawks roster) will come off of IR next week meaning he won’t play versus the Steelers. That’s too bad because those two plays he would have played against Pittsburgh before being injured again would have been special!

This means Alex Collins should see most of the snaps for Seattle on Sunday and that is OK. In fact, when Collins has played this year he looks even more explosive than Carson. He doesn’t have Carson’s strength but Collins is quicker and might be better catching passes out of the backfield. Collins averages 4.4 yards a carry to Carson’s 4.3 but Collins averages 14.8 yards a catch on 4 receptions to Carson’s 4.8 yards a catch on 6 receptions.

Geno Smith is likely to check down more than Russell Wilson did which should mean more opportunities for Collins catching the ball and that is not a bad thing.
