3 pivotal questions Seahawks must answer in week 6 versus Steelers
By Lee Vowell
Can Geno Smith replicate his week 5 4th quarter play for an entire game?
So, no Russell Wilson in week 6. Almost feels like a new era. Sure, Wilson should be back in a few games but if things go badly for Seattle this season (and they are heading that way) then general manager John Schneider might be looking at revamping the roster. Would this make 12s happy? No. But as old as this roster is overall, not being good for the next two years could save the franchise from being bad for years beyond that.
But now Geno Smith gets to be a savior. It’s funny because a lot of people I talked to this week about the game brought up Geno Smith getting punched by a teammate when he was with the Jets. That was six years ago. A good way of getting people to mostly forget that? Play great for the next three games at least.
Smith’s overall statistics against the Rams are misleading. His quarterback rating was 78.3 but would have been much better had he not thrown an interception that was not at all his fault. His target, Tyler Lockett, tripped on the play and wasn’t where Smith assumed he would be. Smith also threw passes away instead of getting sacked, a novelty among Seattle quarterbacks.
The hope in week 6 is that Smith can look as in control of the offense throughout the whole game as he did in most of the 4th quarter in week 5 versus the Rams. Smith stepped in and drove the team 98 yards for a touchdown on his first series and was changing alignments and getting the ball to the tight ends and running backs as well as Lockett and D.K. Metcalf.
If Smith can do this in week 6, Seattle can score 24 points which should be enough to defeat a Steelers team struggling on offense.
