Trade target number 2: Saquon Barkley, RB

The Seahawks are running it back with the current regime. This means that the run game is going to be a focal point in 2022.

It wasn’t that long ago that Saquon Barkley was thought to be the next generationally great running back. However, after very production rookie and sophomore seasons, the wheels have figuratively fallen off.

  • 2018-2019 seasons (2 years): 29 games, 2,310 rushing yards on 4.8 yards per carry. 23 total touchdowns including the passing game, and another 1,159 yards in the receiving game.
  • 2020-2021 seasons (2 years): 15 games, 627 rushing yards on 3.6 yards per carry. 4 total touchdowns including the passing game, and another 323 yards in the receiving game.

Injuries kept Barkley sidelined throughout most of 2020. In 2021, Barkley was still trying to get his feet wet. Toward the end of the season, Barkley started to look like the player the NFL was expecting. An explosive talent who makes the most of every snap.

One of the biggest issues with Barkley has been his yardage per run (3.7 YPC). However, this is not exactly fair to point solely on him. After all, Barkley played behind one of the worst offensive lines (ranked 30th, per Pro Football Focus) in the NFL. He was consistently hit behind the line of scrimmage. It took everything he had to simply get back to the line of gain.

Whatever you think of the Seahawks offensive line, it is light-years beyond that of the Giants. It is completely possible, even likely, that Barkley finds his former self with a new squad where he can actually make a move and find the holes. Add a competent passing game to the offense and Barkley could yet again find himself in the Pro Bowl.

Trade offer: 2022 4th round pick, 2023 5th round pick that can become a 4th based on playing time.
