New Orleans Saints

Trade Target: DE Marcus Davenport

It is no secret that the New Orleans Saints are going to be in cap trouble. The franchise as a whole is sort of in shambles as Sean Payton decided to step away as head coach. They have questions surrounding the future of WR Michael Thomas and still aren’t quite sure who their starting quarterback is going to be.

Ironically, the Saints were one of the teams in the so-called mix for Russell Wilson. We can now shut those rumors down. But, the Seattle Seahawks can still make a trade with New Orleans. DE Marcus Davenport is entering the final year of his contract. He will be earning over $9.5 million this year. Based on his production, his contract is very reasonable and one Seattle should explore taking in as they look to revamp their defensive line.

Finishing the 2021 season with 9 sacks, Davenport would have been the leading sack guy on Seattle. Back in 2013, Seattle’s defense took that leap to the Legion of Boom after acquiring Cliff Avril and Michael Bennett. The pass rush up front complimented the back end. Heck, we just saw it in the Super Bowl. The Rams defensive front won the game.

With a young secondary in Seattle, a solid defensive front can make all the difference in the world in being a top 10 defense and bottom 10 defense. On a reasonable contract, Seattle can acquire Davenport at a reasonable cost. I would suggest moving one of those fourth round picks for Davenport.
