Top 3 free agent options for Seahawks to improve the offensive line
By Almar Reyes
LT Terron Armstead
This is a home run swing the Seahawks have to aggressively try to hit since The New Orleans Saints do not have sufficient cap space to re-sign Armstead with a new contract. Regardless of the number of teams that will heavily pursue this talented left tackle, something is amiss with Seahawk management if they are not evaluating him as a viable addition to the team.
Last season Armstead played for 468 offensive snaps, with only 3 penalties and 1 sack allowed. Although he underwent knee surgery last January, the knee that kept him out of the lineup for the last 4 games of the 2021 regular season, one cannot undermine how exceptional he was when he was on the field.
But what about OT Duane Brown? He is also a free agent and has been with the team since 2017.
Seattle must definitely consider signing both Brown and Armstead. A combo of these two Pro Bowlers will be quite a tandem in filling the current gap in protecting QB Russell Wilson and strengthening their O-line.
We all know age is but a number which Rams OT Andrew Whitworth proved this season, but we cannot ignore that Armstead is only 30 years old, 6 years younger than Brown. When it comes to free agents, age is one of the big factors in landing a multi-year deal. Combine Armstead’s age with his explosiveness backed up with his 2021 output, this is a no-brainer decision for the Seahawks to make.
