3 Seahawks that Seattle should still re-sign this offseason

Rashaad Penny

There are two big reasons Penny hasn’t been signed yet. One is that NFL teams simply don’t want to pay running backs very much anymore. And two is that NFL teams hardly ever want to pay players with injury histories. Penny, unfortunately for him, fits both descriptions. It’s likely that the Seahawks want Penny to come back but just as likely, they are waiting to see what another team offers Penny first.

Clearly, Seattle is approaching this offseason just like any other since Schneider and Pete Carroll came to Seattle in 2010. That means not spending big on any player. Not that Penny needs to be spent big on but if he can play anywhere close over the course of two seasons as he did in the last five games of 2021 (671 yards rushing in those games), Penny would be considered one of the best backs in the league.

I think Penny needs to be back in Seattle. Russell Wilson is gone, Carroll has already suggested he wants to run the ball more than in the last few years and Penny was the biggest reason on offense that Seattle finished 4-2 this past year.

Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny, if they can ever stay healthy for long stretches at the same time, can be one of the best running back duos in the NFL and help Seattle win a bunch of games next year, even if the team doesn’t have Wilson.
