Getting worse at cornerback

J.C. Jackson signed with the Los Angeles Chargers. He is just 26 years old and very good. D.J. Reed was a Seahawk but felt disrespected and left and signed with the New York Jets. Seattle did re-sign Sidney Jones who has had maybe – arguably – one good half-season in the NFL. After Jones – who is only signed through 2022 – Seattle has the following.

A rookie in Tre Brown who was maybe impressive in not a lot of snaps in 2021 but then hurt his knee. There was a hint that Brown might not have hurt his knee as bad as it looked against the Cardinals in 2021 but it looked bad and he missed the seven games. Brown played five total. But the injury looked bad.

I am not a doctor nor have I played one on TV, but I have watched enough football in my life to see Brown get hurt in Week 11 last season and not think, “Oh, he’s fine. Just needs a little scope!” If Brown is fully healthy in week one of 2022, I’ll be shocked. Plus, Brown needs to show he can actually be good for a long time.

Ugo Amadi was horrible at nickelback last year. Seattle did sign Artie Burns this offseason and Burns hasn’t ever been really good ever in his NFL career. So how is 2023 better? Maybe Brown is fine but Seattle has struggled at corner since Richard Sherman left and spending some money on Jackson would have helped fix that.
