Seahawks fans should hope Russell Wilson completely fails in 2022
By Lee Vowell
The Seattle Seahawks traded Russell Wilson to the Broncos this offseason, of course. 12s should hope the trade works out miserably for Wilson.
I should say I have nothing against Wilson. He may – or may not – have wanted out of Seattle. One of the places he was open to being traded to was Denver and so Wilson ended up with the Broncos. I also have nothing against the Broncos or the city of Denver.
But let me be clear: I hope Russell Wilson and Denver don’t win a game in 2022.
Wilson and his new team play in what is most likely the toughest division in the NFL. If there was such a thing as a proverbial arms race in the league, the AFC West has that going on this offseason. Wilson and Randy Gregory joined the Broncos, the Raiders added Davante Adams, the Chargers added Khalil Mack and the Chiefs are still good no matter who they added or lost.
Seahawks have to wish the worst for Russell Wilson in 2022
Denver could finish first or last in their division this coming season and there is little margin for error or success either way. This is potentially very good for the Seahawks. Seattle currently has two first-round picks in the 2023 NFL draft, one of their own and one they acquired in a trade with Denver for Wilson.
The Seahawks also have two second-round choices in next year’s draft. We can probably assume Seattle isn’t going to be great in 2022 so their own picks will likely be in the top half of the draft, maybe even top-ten. But if Denver is not great either then Seattle could have two high picks in the first round and two high picks in the second. For instance, if neither Seattle nor Denver make the playoffs, Seattle could have four picks in, say, the first 48 picks of the 2023 NFL draft.
If a team wants to rebuild, that would be an excellent way of doing it. Besides playing each AFC West team twice, the Broncos also will play the Titans, every NFC West team, the Colts and travel to play the Ravens. That is not an easy schedule.
So I hope as a Seahawks fan that Russell Wilson and the Broncos lose every game they play in 2022. But not because of any Russ-hate but simply because it’s better for the Seahawks.
