New York Jets

The jets are desperate for wide receiver help. Or any kind of offensive help really. They might rather trade for a slightly younger receiver, like DK Metcalf, but if they want a receiver who will catch everything thrown his way, run crisp routes and consistently produce, Lockett should be their guy.

Lockett has a career catch percentage of 71.8. Metcalf’s is 60.3 and AJ Brown’s is 62.7. Lockett averaged more yards per catch in 2021 (16.1) than did Metcalf (12.9) or Brown (13.8). And over the last three years combined, Lockett has more receiving yards than either Metcalf or Brown.

I am not saying that Lockett is better than the other two as they are all great receivers. Lockett will be 30 years old, however, early in the 2022 season while Metcalf will be just 24 and Brown 25. So what the Jets would offer in return for Lockett is not nearly what they would for Metcalf or Brown.

That doesn’t mean New York wouldn’t want Lockett because they should. He’s great at what he does. And even if Seattle isn’t getting multiple draft picks back in return, maybe just a first-rounder or high second-rounder along with an added choice in 2023, they’d save money in the long term and possibly help with their rebuild.
