Metcalf to New Orleans Saints

The Saints need better receivers overall. Michael Thomas can be great when healthy but he has struggled with staying on the field. Thomas had an ankle injury in 2020 and only played in 7 games and finished the season on Injured Reserve. Then Thomas missed all of 2021 with the same ankle issues. For a receiver that is nearing 30, ankle injuries could end his career early.

But New Orleans also needs to find a future quarterback. Moving up to number 9 for them would make sense for that reason. Trading for Metcalf makes sense to improve the receiving room immensely. But in return, the Seahawks would need multiple high picks.

Giving Seattle the first-round choice back in return for pick 9 would be necessary but giving Seattle the Saints’ other first-round pick in 2022 for Metcalf would be needed as well, plus two second-rounders.

If Seattle were to work this trade, they would have five of the first 49 picks in 2022 and plus three second-round selections in 2023 to go with the Seahawks’ two first-round picks as well. If Seattle wants to rebuild in the next two years, this trade helps the team do that with all the added draft capital.

And yes, I understand the Saints are in cap heck but let’s be honest when it comes to cap space, teams can move it around and fit contracts around it. The cap is more fluid than rigid many times.
