Chris Carson

I mean no disrespect to Chris Carson, but if I were him I would probably just retire if I had a neck injury that could only get worse by playing football. But it’s tough to tell an athlete, especially one who likely would be quite successful if he wasn’t hurt, that he or she should quit playing.

Plus, if Carson can stay healthy he could keep making millions of dollars and that is a lot of money for most humans to pass up. That kind of money is generational wealth and that can’t be overlooked in Carson’s non-decision, so far, to retire.

Pete Carroll hasn’t given much information on Carson’s status this offseason and has been mostly dismissive. If I had to guess, I would say the Seahawks don’t plan on Carson being available in 2022. But Carroll nor anyone else with the organization said he won’t be playing.

But after Seattle re-signed Rashaad Penny to a one-year deal this offseason and then drafted Kenneth Walker III in the 2022 NFL draft, it sure seems like Seattle is planning on moving on from Carson. And they should. Carson nor Penny have proven they can stay healthy for most of the important games in a season. But Penny’s production at the end of 2021 made him re-signable. Carson doesn’t have that stretch of games on his resume.

Walker is really the back that makes Carson expendable, however. He can run inside the numbers but has tons of speed too, speed Carson doesn’t have. Again, I like Carson and he was a steal in the seventh round but expecting him to play this coming season seems silly.
