Ugo Amadi

Amadi has always been meant to be a backup. He came into the league as a safety and was transitioned to slot corner. He was OK there in 2019. But Seattle really wanted someone more dynamic at that position so they moved another safety, Marquise Blair, to nickelback and Blair was set to start at the spot in 2020. Then Blair got hurt early in the season in Week 2 and missed the rest of the year.

The same thing happened in 2021 as well. Blair, though, lasted until Week 7 before he got hurt and missed the rest of the year. Basically, Amadi didn’t have a home unless Blair got injured.

This offseason, Seattle signed Justin Coleman. Coleman was good for the Seahawks at nickel in 2017 and 2018 before he left in free agency. If Seattle is smart, they will stick Coleman back at nickel and the position is fixed. This would move Blair back to a backup safety and/or backup nickelback and would leave Amadi without a position once again.

Amadi was terrible in 2021 and should be, if nothing else, buried on the roster. If the Seahawks were to release him, the dead space would account for only $161,299. He isn’t going to play safety, there is certainly no spot at outside corner, especially after Seattle drafted two corners in the 2022 draft, and he should be the third option at nickelback.
