Offense

Quarterback – Drew Lock

If Week1 were happening right now, I would think Geno Smith would be the starter. Smith knows more about Shane Waldron’s offense than Lock does. But we have all of training camp and preseason for Lock to learn the offense and show that he is the point guard quarterback that Pete Carroll wants.

Running back – Rashaad Penny

At this point, if Chris Carson comes back to play in 2022 he should be the third-string back. Penny should be the starter in Week 1 because of his production at the end of last year. Plus, while Kenneth Walker III might supplant Penny as the starter at some point, Walker needs to block better and show he can catch the ball out of the backfield.

Wide receiver – DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, D’Wayne Eskridge

Metcalf and Lockett are no-brainers to start. I should also say here that I think Seattle is going to go with a lot of two tight end sets in 2022 and this means fewer reps for Eskridge. Still, Eskridge will likely be better in his year two which should open the field more for Lockett and Metcalf.

Tight end – Noah Fant

See the above paragraph here. While I have Fant as the starter at TE, the Seahawks paid Will Dissly a bunch of money to return and Dissly is a great blocker. Fant will be the main target for receptions for whoever plays QB for Seattle and he should be good. But Dissly is going to play a lot to help Seattle run the ball well.

Offensive line – Charles Cross (left tackle), Damien Lewis (left guard), Austin Blythe (center), Gabe Jackson (right guard), Abe Lucas (right tackle)

The only question about the line, really, is if Jake Curhan starts the season at right tackle and Lucas is the backup. But offensive lines need to build cohesion over time and this same group could be the same players that start the season in 2023 as well. Cross and Lucas are going to make mistakes for sure in 2022 but that only makes them better in 2023 when the whole Seahawks team should be better. Better to let Lucas and Cross play now and learn to help the future.
