Seahawks defense and special teams

Defensive line

On the roster: Quinton Jefferson, Shelby Harris, L.J. Collier, Poona Ford, Al Woods and Bryan Mone

The interior of the defensive line should be great, just like in 2021. Ford might even supply more quarterback pressure than he ever has in new defensive coordinator Clint Hurtt’s system. Jefferson is a great signing and a good fit in a 3-4. Harris should be able to move inside and outside and get interior pressure on opposing QBs, which Seattle lacked last season.

It’s a make-or-break year for Collier but reports say he is doing well in the new defensive scheme this offseason.

Edge rushers

On the roster: Darrell Taylor, Alton Robinson, Uchenna Nwosu and Boye Mafe

This should be a young and hungry group, just the way Pete Carroll likes it. There is tons of speed here so if Hurtt puts them in the right positions to succeed, they should.

Linebackers

On the roster: Jordyn Brooks, Cody Barton, Ben Burr-Kirven, John Rhattigan and Joel Iyiegbuniwe

These are all really inside linebackers but only two really matter defensively: Brooks and Barton. Brooks could be a Pro Bowler this season. Barton will have a ton of pressure – pressure he has never felt in the NFL – as he will be Bobby Wagner’s replacement. The other three on this list are special teamers but good ones.

Cornerbacks

On the roster: Coby Bryant, Tariq Woolen, Sidney Jones, Tre Brown and Justin Coleman

This group could be boom or bust. Woolen, Bryant and Brown will still be finding their way in the NFL, especially rookies Bryant and Woolen. In fact, Woolen probably won’t get a lot of playing time early as he is still raw in his technique.

Coleman should fix the problems the Seahawks have had at slot corner for the last few seasons. And if Jones plays like he did in the second half of 2021, he will be very good.

Safeties

On the roster: Jamal Adams, Quandre Diggs, Ryan Neal, Marquise Blair and Ugo Amadi

The two starters are set: Adams and Diggs. Both are good, too. Neal is a solid backup to Adams. But Amadi was a washout at slot corner and Blair can’t stay healthy.

Special teams

Kicker: Jason Myers

Punter: Michael Dickson

Long snapper: Tyler Ott

Next. 3 Seahawks to cut before the season starts. dark

There is no drama here unless the Seahawks pull a surprise and release Myers and thereby save $4 million. But this is not likely to happen and everyone listed in this group is good at their job.
