Former Seahawks left tackle Duane Brown

The Seahawks were never going to re-sign Brown after the team took Charles Cross in the 2022 NFL draft. Brown was good for half of last year. He still is likely better than Cross right now but only because of Brown’s experience. Cross is younger, quicker and will be just as strong as Brown once he gets a bit into an NFL weight training program. That said, Brown was always an intelligent player on the field, which is part of what made him so good.

Brown, however, was arrested last week after trying to carry an unloaded gun onto a plane in Los Angeles. If there was any chance of his returning to Seattle, that is likely gone now. In fact, since Brown is about to be 37 years old and due to his recent off-field issue, he might not ever play in the NFL again.

Still, Brown has been a very good player for a very long time. There are several teams that need a quality left tackle. I mean, every team needs a left tackle as good as Brown has been, so it wouldn’t be shocking if a team overlooked Brown’s age and recent snafu and signed him to a one-year deal.

That is just very unlikely to be Seattle. Now, 12s just have to hope Cross can be close to being as good as Brown and be that good very soon.
