Seahawks can build for the future with newly retired K.J. Wright
One of the best Seahawks ever came home to retire. Hopefully, that will only be the first step for the great K.J. Wright to continue to build the team he loves.
I don’t think anyone can dispute that K.J. Wright was one of the best to ever wear College Navy, Wolf Gray, and Action Green. With the exception of the incomparable Bobby Wagner, no Seahawks linebacker ever had more than Wright’s 941 combined tackles.
He also ranks third in tackles for a loss among all Seahawks, just three behind the leader. Nope, Bobby Wagner is somehow only second in this category. A fabulous no-prize awaits the first 12 who can identify the Seahawks leader in TFL.
One thing K.J. Wright never trailed in is integrity. As Lee Vowell wrote, the inimitable K.J. Wright was much more than a football player. Wright has served the Seattle community and humanity in general with his charitable work. He’s always represented the Seahawks with class and distinction. The way I see it, Wright’s work with the Seahawks has only begun.
K.J. Wright needs an office with the Seahawks today
A few months ago the Hawks legend was still hoping to get back on the field. As it turns out, that wasn’t what the future held for him. But Pete Carroll seems to have a vision for Wright’s future. As Brady Henderson reported, Carroll said, “I’ve already talked to him about stuff for the future and all that.” And as I wrote two months ago, it was the “and stuff” part that interested me the most.
I wrote then, “I see a much more likely scenario that Wright signs and retires, then joins the Hawks as a linebacker coach.” If anybody knows how to cover the middle of the field, it’s number 50. Well Pete, step one is in the books. It’s up to you to make this happen for the 12s, the Seahawks, and one of the best to ever patrol the turf, K.J. Wright.
