The Seahawks are through two preseason games. There are still many unanswered questions but the overall roster appears to be taking shape.

It will be interesting to see how the cornerback spot shakes out. There are several players vying for a spot and the Seahawks may only keep five. A lot may depend on who Seattle wants to start at slot corner because rookie Coby Bryant might begin there and then work his way outside. Then what happens with Justin Coleman?

Linebacker is another group that might be wide open but not who will start. Seattle likes to use its linebackers on special teams so there might be several LBs who make the team but purely as special teams players who rarely see defensive snaps.

We could also see some shifting along the offensive line starters so there might be a surprise cut there. Here’s looking at you, Gabe Jackson.

Seahawks quarterback (2)

In previous guesses at what the roster might look like, I had three QBs listed: Geno Smith, Drew Lock plus Jacob Eason. Judging from the fact that Eason got zero reps in preseason game 1 and rarely gets to do much in practice, I am going to say he is one of the last players cut and that Seattle will hope to sign him to the practice squad.

Smith is going to start and Lock is going to back him up. This seems like a done deal. The only thing that could upset this is if Seattle picks up a quarterback that is released this month. Even then, if say, Jimmy Garoppolo gets released and the Seahawks pick him up, then Smith is still going to start at least the first game.

But my assumption is Smith and Lock are the two quarterbacks on the roster and that Seattle just hopes upon hopes that neither gets injured. And hopes, of course, that they play well. But even if both QBs stink, the true long-term answer at QB for Seattle is likely in the 2023 NFL draft.
