The Seahawks added depth at key positions by bringing in more players to complete their practice squad. Let’s see how likely they are to have an impact.

The Seahawks have a lot of opportunities this season. That’s what happens when you had a 7-10 record the year before, you know. They already signed a dozen players, but there’s always room for more. Sorta like Jell-o, but no one talks about that much anymore. Hmmmm…

Anyway, Seattle will undoubtedly make more moves as we get closer to the season opener versus Denver. I heard they have a high-priced quarterback on their roster; wonder how he’ll do against our new defense?

Well, the Hawks addressed a roster spot where they’re a bit thin, took a flyer on a standout athlete, and grabbed a legacy player. A very large legacy player, at that. Let’s meet the newest members of the Seahawks, and reintroduce our

Seahawks add three new players, bring one more back

The Seahawks are thin at the cornerback position, as both Sidney Jones and Artie Burns have battled injuries for most of the preseason. Enter Xavier Crawford, who was cut from the Jaguars. Yeah, I know, 12s. If we were going to get a Jags CB, why couldn’t we get Shaquill Griffin? Well, he wasn’t about to get cut. Crawford could contribute, though.

He’s bounced around the league a bit since the Texans drafted him in 2019. He saw far more action with the Bears last year, getting into 13 games and starting two. Is he going to play his way into the starting lineup? No, not with rookies like Coby Bryant and Tariq Woolen in place. But he can certainly help the team.

Jabari Zuniga is the athletic freak of the group. According to mockdraftable.com, Zuniga’s 4.64 40 time placed him in the top ten percent of all defensive ends in the 2020 draft. He’s definitely explosive, as his broad jump ranked in the top five percent.

The 6’3″, 264-pound end hasn’t exactly seen that speed translate into NFL success, though. In two seasons with the Jets he got into eight games and recorded just one sack. Not great, but to be fair, he was on the Jets.

Offensive tackle Jalen McKenzie is the legacy player I mentioned. He’s the son of NFL exec Reggie McKenzie, who worked with John Schneider in Green Bay. John Boyle noted on seahawks.com that Schneider has been familiar with Jalen for quite some time. Like, a long time.

"Schneider said, “I actually held (McKenzie) in my arms as a baby a number of years ago,” Schneider said. “Now he’s like 6-6, 320 pounds, so I probably won’t be doing that anymore.”"

McKenzie played at right tackle for USC. Southern Cal is another connection to the Seahawks, as tenuous as it may be. He was signed by the Titans after this year’s draft, and while he didn’t stick there, he could develop further with time.

dark. Next. Seahawks name 12 to practice squad

As reported by Bob Condotta in The Seattle Times, the Hawks wasted no time in bringing back linebacker Joshua Onujiogu. He looked great with the Hawks in the preseason with eight tackles and a sack. He was on Seattle’s initial 53-man roster and was only waived for some roster maneuvers. The Hawks can never have enough pass rushers and Onujiogu could certainly see considerable time on the field this year. Seattle can certainly look to their practice squad for help this season.
