3 Seahawks that will lead Seattle to a Week 2 victory over the 49ers
By Lee Vowell
The Seattle Seahawks began 2022 with a surprising victory over the Broncos. They could start 2-0 if these three players do well in Week 2.
Still shocked by the Seahawks victory in Week 1 over Russell Wilson and his new friends? The win didn’t seem unworthy. Sure, the offense was great in the first half and didn’t score in the second half. But Denver also only scored 3 points in the second half.
Seattle, though, can’t continue to play as it did in the second half and win games. Denver dominated time of possession, they just turned the ball over at the worst possible times. That can’t be a formula for winning for Seattle.
But which three players could be great in Week 2 and allow the Seahawks to be victorious in a different way? Maybe the three that follow.
Three Seahawks who be the difference in Week 2
Defensive tackle Poona Ford
I am a big fan of Poona Ford but he was also awful in Week 1 against the Broncos. Ford played 31 defensive snaps against Denver and he had just 1 tackle. I’d like to say Ford was able to eat up blockers so that Seattle’s linebackers could clean up Denver’s running backs. But that would be a lie.
Denver’s backs average 5.3 yards a carry on 19 rushes. While many of these were over the left side of Seattle’s defensive line, Denver also had no issues straight up the middle. Ford also offered nothing when it came to trying to get pressure on Russell Wilson. Ford had zero pressures and, of course, zero quarterback hits.
Ford is usually great against the run but in Week 1 Pro Football Focus (subscription required) gave him a grade of 40.3 in run support. That’s atrocious. Being that bad against the 49ers will get the Seahawks beat. If Ford gets a couple of hits against 49ers quarterback Trey Lance, great. But if he reverts back to being fantastic against the run, Ford could be such a disruptor that Seattle wins a low-scoring close game.
