Seahawks vs. Raiders Week 12: Staff predictions are confident in Seattle
By Lee Vowell
The Seahawks play the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 12 as Seattle continues to try to push for the playoffs. The Raiders? Not so much.
Still, the same reasons that Seattle got beat in Week 10 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are relevant in Week 12. Las Vegas is capable of running the ball well and controlling the clock. And while the Raiders are 24th in third-down conversions this year, they also have 17 fourth-down conversion attempts. That is second in the league.
The point is that a Raiders team that is an extremely underwhelming 3-7 will likely not hesitate to do anything it can to win on Sunday. The Seahawks need to do two things to win in Week 12. One, stop Raiders running back Josh Jacobs who is third in the league in yards rushing (930) but who doesn’t mind just grinding out yards. Two, keep the Raiders from extending drives.
Because Las Vegas is 3-7 for a few reasons. One is that they struggle to stop other teams from throwing the ball. It’s not that the Raiders give up tons of yards to opposing quarterbacks each week but they are last in passer-rating-allowed (106.3) because they don’t get a lot of pressure (the Raiders are last in sacks with 13). The Seahawks offense should be good enough to win the game.
Seahawks vs. Raiders: Preview and staff predictions
Las Vegas has allowed 24 or more points in every game but three this year. Two of the games they didn’t allow at least 24 points were to the Denver Broncos who I am not completely sure has an NFL-type offense. The other game was against the Texans.
This game might be a lot tighter than 12s would hope but at the end, Geno Smith and company should get enough points for the Seahawks to be victorious and move to 7-4. Seattle has two games that follow the Raiders game that should also be winnable so the Seahawks could be – should be? – 9-4 when they face the 49ers in Week 15. Or a loss to the Raiders might effectively end Seattle’s season.
