By Almar Reyes
The playoff hopes of the Seattle Seahawks suffered a devastating blow last Thursday night, as they fell in the hands of their NFC West division rival, the San Francisco 49ers. The Seahawks loss dropped their season record to 7-7, pushing them out of the wildcard spot in the playoffs. The defeat at their home field also meant that the 49ers clinched the NFC West division this season.
A critical game for the Seahawks to make their mark and prove to everyone that they belong this year. Instead, they showed us that they simply aren’t there yet in terms of competing for the Lombardi. As surprising of a season as the Seahawks have shown us this year, there are still too many holes to get fixed within this team to be able to truly compete amongst the top teams.
Fixing these problems will not happen overnight. Luckily, they will have an abundance of early draft picks next year thanks in part to the Russell Wilson trade last offseason.
