We are down to two games, 12s. The Seahawks sit at 7-8 yet still with slim hopes of making the playoffs. Seattle will most likely need to win both of its remaining games to get there.

In Week 17, Seattle faces an improved, but not yet very good, New York Jets team that has had relatively the same arch to their season that the Seahawks have had. Seattle has lost five of its last six games while losing their last three games. New York is also 7-8 and has lost five of its last six games including four in a row.

Both teams feature a whole bunch of very good rookies. The Seahawks have cornerback Tariq Woolen while the Jets have CB Sauce Gardner. Seattle has running back Ken Walker III while New York has wide receiver Garrett Wilson. The list for both teams as far as the quality of first-year players is a long one.

If Seattle is going to win the game, they likely need to pull out a low-scoring victory. The Seahawks’ offense certainly hasn’t been as good as it was earlier in the season and has scored 16 or fewer points in three of their last six games. In the last two games combined, Seattle has only scored 23 points. New York’s offense has been even worse and hasn’t scored more than 17 points in four of their last six games, twice only scoring 3 points. Mike White does return as QB for New York this week, however, so that might make some difference.

Seahawks vs. Jets: Staff predictions for Week 17

If Seattle does lose, they should probably turn their attention completely to which players to retain in 2023 and which changes to make. Should Geno Smith be back at quarterback next year, for instance? If he has two good games to finish the season, likely he should be re-signed. Otherwise, maybe not. But here’s what our staff thinks will happen in Week 17.

Todd Vandenberg: Seattle 23 Jets 15

Jake Luppino: Seattle 24 Jets 14

Andrew Bailie: Seattle 17 Jets 14

Karley Sibert: Seattle 24 Jets 21
