3 bold predictions for Tre Brown in Seahawks’ Week 6 game against the 49ers
If you've taken any quick strolls down the avenues of Seahawks Twitter over the last three days, you will have seen the doom and gloom hellscape of hot takes and overreactions that has been terraformed within. Please don't be alarmed, and please don't feed the animals as we walk by.
The truth is, it's early in the season. Coaches should be given the opportunity to make progress with their team. To call them higher and hold them accountable. Our previous coach's squads always got better as the NFL calendar made its cold descent into winter. This is one of those opportunities for growth and statement-making for fourth-year cornerback Tre Brown.
Unique physical specimen, Riq "tha freak" Woolen has already been ruled out for Seattle's Thursday night showdown with San Fran, and that's a big blow. He has the ability to lock up number-one receivers and is one of a cavalcade of defenders who will miss the Seahawks divisional opener. Brown is still here, though. He won the battle against Mike Jackson (traded to Carolina) and won the right to perform alongside Woolen and Devon Witherspoon.
Three bold predictions for Seahawks corner Tre Brown in Week 6
Prediction 1: Tre Brown will get picked on at first, then come through with a big turnover
Brown didn't look great against the New York Giants last week. Let's get that out of the way... he stunk! Ultimately, it is said that good corners have to have short memories. You can't let a previous play or game cause you to have another bad play or game. Let's bet that Tre knows this, has been reminded, and is locked in, and is ready to go.
The 5'10", 194 lb. Tre Brown can be had at times by larger receivers. That's not secret, but it has not so far precluded him from being a very good defensive back. Brown was impressive from his rookie year on down, collecting two interceptions last year as a regular contributor on defense. Brock Purdy will undoubtedly test him (versus testing Witherspoon on the other side), but it is up to Brown to make him pay. A pick or forced fumble will be in the cards for a hungry Tre.
Prediction 2: The man that wears number 22 will announce himself as a starting CB in this league
Tre has always had a lot of talent and promise. He had to overcome the injury bug and then a slew of challenges for his job. If Brown doesn't get a new contract from the Hawks this offseason, he is hoping to define his own success. There are other teams who will be watching. The prediction here is that Tre Brown will help to limit both Niners receivers to less than 70 yards receiving each.
He had this to say about the experience of a new coaching staff during a press conference back in August: "Everybody is hungry. There’s a fresh start...". He went on to say, “It’s a first impression for everybody, so everybody wants to go out there and show who, what they can do without having that label put on them or who they are. So everybody gets a fair chance." This is really the chance of all chances in 2024 for young Tre!
Prediction 3: Brown will play tenaciously and make at least one highlight reel hit on a ball carrier
Let's not forget that TB is a dawg! He is now Witherspoon, but he can play bigger than his size, displaying his heart to challenge all comers. Fill-in running back Jordan Mason is a big guy at around 225 pounds, but he better keep his head on a swivel if he gets caught in traffic. I could also see Tre making a big hit on a big-mouth slot guy like Jauan Jennings.
Tariq Woolen is a guy that the Seattle Seahawks will want healthy for the long run, but it may benefit him to sit out and see what a player like Brown does with his opportunity. Riq may learn a thing or two from Tre Brown's mentality. Brown will be spending time in coverage on Brandon Aiyuk as well as Deebo Samuel and Jennings, and he'll be bringing his lunch pail.
