By any measure, Bobby Wagner should be considered one of the greatest players in Seattle Seahawks history. He was instrumental during the "Legion of Boom" era, and the fact that he was still relevant last season speaks volumes about his talent and work ethic.
Nevertheless, even though he's a free agent and the Seahawks can certainly afford to bring him back home, that doesn't mean they should. He's not a great fit for Mike Macdonald's defense, and throwing him a bone just for the sake of it without giving him a clear role would be disrespectful.
However, that doesn't mean those who dream of a Seahawks reunion can wake up. Wagner is an ambitious and savvy businessman, and with the franchise up for sale, he might be interested in joining whoever buys the Seahawks.
Bobby Wagner should consider a front-office role with the Seattle Seahawks
Wagner just returned to his alma mater, Utah State, to get an honorary doctoral degree while serving as the university’s 2026 commencement speaker. As he shared on his LinkedIn page, he's about much more than what people see on the field:
"While I'm mostly known for my accolades as an athlete, my passion for learning, achievement and supporting others extends beyond the football field. I co-founded FUSE Venture Partners in 2020, after an insightful experience as an intern at Ignition Partners during the off-season," Wagner wrote.
The former Super Bowl champion is also a part of the WNBA's Seattle Storm ownership group, so he's already shown a willingness to dip his toes into the business side of the sport. He's a fan favorite and knows the organization inside out, so he'd certainly be a welcome addition to the front office.
He may work his way up the ladder and, who knows? Maybe make a positive impact on the new generation, just like he did when he was tackling guys on the gridiron.
Wagner also recently teased a potential return to the Pacific Northwest, but he was just joking about his trip back to Utah State. Judging by the fans' positive reaction, he may want to be a part of the organization again in some capacity. Maybe he could also consider joining the coaching staff, and he'd certainly be a positive addition and mentor.
Assuming he's healthy, Bobby Wagner can still help a team, and he should get a chance to walk away from the game on his own terms. He was always a productive inside linebacker and a class act off the field, and he's definitely going to get that one-day deal with the Seahawks once he's ready to ride into the sunset. As for padding up, however, that ship may have already sailed.
