Cardinals just made a move at pick 3 that feels aimed at the Seahawks

A good choice?

The Arizona Cardinals are the poor brethren of the NFC West. Their masters are three: The Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers, and Los Angeles Rams. What the Cardinals and their three fans needed in the draft was structure. Instead, they chose a player who will need help to be good.

Arizona took Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love, the presumed best back of the draft. He could be terrific, as he is explosive and powerful. The issue is that he, like any running back, needs assistance in being their best because a back needs good blocking in front of them.

It also helps to have a quarterback who can throw the ball effectively and scare opposing defenses. The Cardinals don't have any of that. This means defenses will be able to focus on Love while spending a little time on how to cover Marvin Harrison Jr. and Trey McBride.

Still, how good the blocking is for the quarterback, assumed to be longtime backup Jacoby Brissett, is a real question. It likely won't be good, and Arizona could have gone in that direction instead of a player that will sell tickets, but not win games.

In other words, the Cardinals' choice of Love isn't going to scare Mike Macdonald and the Seattle Seahawks. The quarterback will still be the focus while Seattle's offense takes advantage of a bad Arizona pass rush. The Cardinals could have gone with a high-end pass rusher, too, but passed.

None of this is meant to be an offense to Jeremiyah Love. He will do his best, and has great talent, but a running back must rely on others, whereas an edge rusher doesn't.

Of course, the Seahawks might end up with Love's Notre Dame teammate, Jadarian Price. Seattle does need a running back, but it has all the other elements needed to win a Super Bowl. The Cardinals are quite the reverse of that, but don't seem to know it.

If the Seahawks take Price at No. 32 or, if the team trades back, early in the second round, that's a win. A win isn't anything that Jeremiyah Love will know a lot of with the Arizona Cardinals.
