Final Seahawks injury report for Week 14 is full of emptiness (except one player)

Whatever magic Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald is working to keep his team healthy as the season grows old, let's hope it doesn't wear off. Unlike in recent campaigns when Pete Carroll was still the head coach, Seattle isn't being decimated by multiple injuries to specific position groups, such as running back. The team is actually getting players back from being hurt.

Such is the case in Week 14 when the Seahawks will get edge rusher Uchenna Nwoso back from injured reserve. Nwosu has only played in one half of one game so far this season, partially due to a preseason injury suffered at the hands of Cleveland Browns right guard Wyatt Teller. Due to the Year 2 improvement of Derick Hall, the edge rusher group has not been an issue.

Nwosu is only going to make it better.

He excels at both pressuring opposing quarterbacks and stopping the run. The only issue might be how he fits into the rotation of edge rushers. Seattle's defense has played much better over the last four games, allowing just 17.5 points per contest even when including a 99-yard kick-return score by the New York Jets. While adding Nwosu should be a good thing, it might throw off the play of a player getting fewer reps.

Seattle Seahawks get mostly clean bill of health in final injury report for Week 14

Several key Seahawks took turns missing practice in the days ahead of their NFC West showdown with the Arizona Cardinals. Defensive lineman Leonard Williams, fresh off being named NFC Defensive Player of the Week for his destruction of the Jets in Week 13, missed Wednesday and Thursday with a foot problem, but he has had the issue for several weeks and it has not affected his game status or overall play.

Receivers DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett also missed a day during the week, but, like Williams, both are expected to play against Arizona. So is running back Kenneth Walker III who missed Thursday's practice with ankle and calf issues. In all of these cases, the Seahawks were most likely just resting veterans who did not need the practice as much.

One real concern was the back of punter Michael Dickson. He was limited in practice during the week, and his affliction forced Seattle to take chances in the second half against the Jets, such as going for a first down on 4th-and-6 inside its own territory. Seattle didn't sign a punter to the active roster (only to the practice squad) during the week, indicating it always had confidence in Dickson's availability.

Seahawks final injury report designations for Week 14:

  • Right tackle Stone Forsythe (hand) - Out
  • Running back Kenneth Walker III (ankle/calf) - Questionable
  • Punter Michael Dickson (back) - Questionable
