Unbelievable.

If you thought you might have seen everything the NFL has to offer and can no longer be shocked, just wait. According to one writer for The Athletic, former Seattle Seahawks quarterbacks Geno Smith and Russell Wilson might be on the verge of reuniting and playing for the New York Jets.

Zack Rosenblatt tweeted on Tuesday, "The Jets hosted Russell Wilson for a visit and are considering him as an option to be Geno Smith's No. 2 quarterback, according to a source."

The only thing that might be more shocking is if one of them returned to the Seahawks, and there's no way that's ever going to happen, right? Wilson accidentally forced his way out of playing in Seattle after the 2021 season when he went to ownership to try to get general manager John Schneider and head coach Pete Carroll fired.

Smith worked his way out of the Pacific Northwest by turning the ball over too much and being bad for team culture. Instead, the team traded him to the Las Vegas Raiders, where he flamed out the same season that the Seahawks were on their way to winning the Super Bowl.

Wilson knows what that is like, though. He won a title with Seattle in the 2013 season, though he wasn't the main reason. The defense and running back Marshawn Lynch were. Wilson was simply a game manager.

Ironically, while Smith has returned to the team that drafted him in 2013, the Jets, Wilson would be heading to the different New York team he played for in 2025. Wilson was an employee of the New York Giants last season, but is now a free agent.

Just as ironically, Wilson would be the backup to Smith after Smith had backed up Wilson when both were with the Seattle Seahawks from 2019 through 2021. Smith took over after Seattle traded Wilson to the Denver Broncos.

How do the quarterbacks find a way to work together again is anyone's guess. Geno Smith is by far the more volatile player, but will be the starter. Should he fail, and the New York Jets actually sign Russell Wilson, RW3 would take Smith's place as the startr. That could lead to all kinds of delicious fun from a Seattle Seahawks fan's point of view.

Of course, the move hasn't yet happened, but let's hope it does. Geno Smith and Russell Wilson ending up together in New York on a likely doomed team only seems right.
