Jamal Adams became a bit of an enigma with the Seattle Seahawks. In the end, the issue was not that he was constantly hurt or proved that because of all the injuries, he had lost most of his explosiveness, but that he became a problem in the locker room. He was a rah-rah guy prior to 2023, but then likely lost the respect of many of his teammates.
The safety was told he was not going to play last season in Week 15 and either left the stadium (and his teammates) or stayed home. Either way, he appeared to see himself as bigger than the team. Unsurprisingly, Seattle released Adams ahead of free agency this past offseason and saved several million dollars, and a probable headache for new head coach Mike Macdonald.
Adams left for the Tennessee Titans, did not play much after beginning the season injured, and eventually asked for his release. The Titans granted that, and let him go. No one picked him up right away, though. Maybe he wanted to go to a potential contender, but was a team like that willing to take a risk on him was the question.
Former Seattle Seahawks safety Jamal Adams finds a new home with the Detroit Lions
Turns out, a team was. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Adams has signed with the Detroit Lions practice squad. That's quite the fall for a player who saw himself as bigger than his team just last year, but Adams actually found a way to better himself even with the demotion. The Lions are really good and the safety will probably find a way to play for Detroit in some capacity this year.
This means that Adams went from not being wanted any longer in Seattle, dispelled from Tennessee through his first midseason with them, to signing, even with the practice squad, with arguably the best team in the NFL this year. How lucky can Adams continue to get? The truth is that if he doesn't get elevated from the practice squad, Adams might still get a Super Bowl ring with the Lions this year.
Adams might be the luckiest player in league history to be unlucky on the field. There is no ill will directed toward him from Seahawks fans for the most part, but do 12s still believe Adams deserves a chance at a ring? Likely not, but the Lions do and that is all that matters.
