Former Seahawks fan favorite among brutal cuts from one rebuilding team

Should he come back home?

The Seattle Seahawks are unique. Sure, of course, a Seahawks site would say that, but it is also true. Being tucked far away in the Pacific Northwest, Seattle just kind of does its own thing, and the players we like, we really like.

Other fanbases might not understand Jake Bobo, for instance, but 12s do. Imagining him playing anywhere else but with the Seattle football team is difficult. He might not always be with the Seahawks, but 12s will probably keep an eye on him no matter where else he goes.

The same holds true of linebacker Jon Rhattigan. The Army grad battled his way onto the Seattle roster after being undrafted in 2021 and was a special teams ace for a few years. He appeared in four games on defense two years ago, too, and wasn't bad.

He left in free agency in 2024 and signed with the rebuilding Carolina Panthers. 12s might have hoped he had a better chance to get real defensive snaps with Carolina, but that didn't turn out to be the case. He only got three snaps, but did play quite a bit more on special teams again.

Of course, Rhattigan is exactly the kind of player a team wants on special teams. He would do anything a coach asked him to do to help a team succeed, plays with aggression, and has a high football IQ. He lacks elite athleticism, but makes up for that with a high motor.

Unfortunately, Jon Rhattigan was among the Panthers' roster cuts on Tuesday and is looking for a new home. He might land somewhere on the practice squad, and maybe the Seattle Seahawks should think about bringing him back.

The way Seattle's roster is constructed in 2025, Rhattigan would be a great fit. He could provide depth at inside linebacker, but the team is clearly focused on making the special teams better. The wide receiver group alone is full of special teams elites, such as Bobo, Dareke Young, and Cody White.

It is doubtful Rhattigan will be claimed off waivers because then a team would have to keep him on the roster, which augments his chances of landing on a practice squad somewhere. That should be in Seattle. 12s know what to expect from the linebacker, and know he will do whatever he can to help the Seahawks win.
