The Seattle Seahawks' 2025 NFL draft is done, and so are the remnants of the trade that sent wide receiver DK Metcalf to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Metcalf finished his time in Seattle as a top-10 most-productive receiver, but he was mercurial. He appeared to be trying to set a record for 15-yard off-ball penalties at times.
But what did Seattle ultimately get back for Metcalf? A lot, possibly. Seattle got back picks 52 and 223 in the 2025 draft, but the Seahawks were able to trade the 52 selection and another to move up to pick 35.
With that choice, general manager John Schneider chose safety Nick Emmanwori. He is a Kam Chancellor clone, big and fast. He could become a great run stopper and an elite disruptor. He might be one of the final pieces to help turn head coach Mike Macdonald's defense into the Legion of Boom 2.0.
Seahawks put finishing touches on DK Metcalf trade by choosing a Kam Chancellor clone in the 2025 NFL draft
Seahawks receive
- 2025 second-round pick, number 52 overall (traded for pick 35)
- 2025 seventh-round choice, number 223 overall (Running back Damien Martinez)
Steelers receive
- Wide receiver DK Metcalf
- 2025 sixth-round pick, number 185 overall (Quarterback Will Howard)
Before the Seahawks shipped Metcalf to the Steelers, the receiver said he wanted to go to a team with a more stable quarterback situation. At the time, Seattle still had quarterback Geno Smith while Pittsburgh's QB room was unsettled. Seattle then traded Smith but signed Sam Darnold.
Meanwhile, the Steelers are still waiting on Aaron Rodgers to make a decision, and have no true QB1. But Metcalf did get a contract extension from Pittsburgh for four years and $132 million. He might have only wanted money, and he got that, so he should be happy.
The Seahawks will likely be the winners of the trade, though. Getting safety Nick Emmanwori at pick 35 is bringing in a Kam Chancellor clone. Seattle is going to win with defense for the foreseeable future, and Emmanwori is going to be a key part of that.
