The Seattle Seahawks play their most important game in years in Week 18 against the San Francisco 49ers, and it's a battle for the top seed in the NFC. The 49ers have thrived despite multiple key injuries, and that ability to adapt and overcome makes them dangerous. San Francisco could also be on the verge of adding a former Dallas Cowboys All-Pro.
According to multiple projections, the 49ers could be one of the landing spots for cornerback Trevon Diggs. He was released by Dallas just a few days before Week 18. Should San Francisco pick up Diggs, that might not mean bad things for Seattle, though.
Diggs could be more motivated to play well while being on a bit of a redemption tour, attempting to prove how wrong the Cowboys were to give him up. That could happen with any player, of course. Being released while one is still under contract can be (should be?) viewed as a sign of disrespect.
If projections are true, the Seahawks Seahawks might see an NFC West rival make a poor decision
According to CBS Sports, Bleacher Report, and other various outlets, the San Francisco 49ers are on the short list of teams that might go all-in to land the failed star. San Fran has only picked off six passes this season (second-least in the NFL), and interceptions are Diggs' specialty.
But here's the rub: The truth is that Trevon Diggs might simply have aged fast and is no longer the same player who had 11 interceptions in 2021. He is only 28 years old, but increasingly injury-prone. He has dealt with a concussion and a knee issue this season and has only appeared in eight games. He played in 11 in 2024, but just two in 2023.
His production is also not what it once was. His quarterback rating allowed in 2025 is 158.3. That is a perfect passer rating for an opposing quarterback throwing toward Diggs. He's given up 17.9 yards per catch, three touchdowns, allowed 80 percent of the passes tossed his way to be completed, and has zero interceptions.

Last season, his coverage numbers were better, but he whiffed on 24 percent of his tackle attempts. In other words, he isn't going to help much against the run.
The above also should rule out the Seattle Seahawks taking a risk and signing Diggs. The connection to Seattle for the cornerback is that Aden Durde is the Seahawks' defensive coordinator, but before being hired as the DC, he was a defensive coach for the Dallas Cowboys.
Ultimately, the San Francisco 49ers' potential signing of Trevon Diggs could be a significant benefit for quarterback Sam Darnold and the Seattle Seahawks' offense. Diggs appears to be a diminished player that Seattle could expose.
