Richard Sherman knows what it takes to be a good cornerback in the NFL. He is likely a future Pro Football Hall of Famer, and he still observes the sport with a keen eye. He also clearly is a fan of the Seattle Seahawks, and comments on them freely.
Maybe Sherman's connection to the team is obvious. He played for the Seahawks and won a Super Bowl. He also still lives in the Seattle area.
But he is also fair in his assessments. Some find his way of conveying his thoughts a bit too loud, but that is what gets a person heard in the white noise of sports commentators. Maybe that isn't fun to many, but Sherman does it well.
Richard Sherman knows that Mike Jackson should still be playing for the Seattle Seahawks
But he said the quiet part out loud on social media during Seattle's Week 17 game against the Carolina Panthers. The Seahawks won 27-10, but offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak's offense struggled quite a bit. One reason for that was that former Seattle cornerback Mike Jackson, who now plays for the Panthers, was playing exceedingly well.
Jackson has been good for Carolina for two seasons after Seattle traded him just a couple of weeks before the start of the 2024 season. In hindsight, Jackson should have stayed with the Seahawks, and the team should have rid itself of Tre Brown.
Jackson had been a good player when given the chance to start in Seattle in 2022 and 2023, but he didn't create many turnovers, and maybe the coaches wanted more. He has changed that narrative with the Panthers. He has four interceptions (one that he returned for a touchdown) in 2025 alone, and one of those came against the Seahawks in Week 17.
Jackson provided the kind of sticky coverage he did in Seattle, and he also led his team in tackles with 11. Richard Sherman noticed.
On X, the Seattle Seahawks icon wrote, "That Mike Jackson (interception) is about as (good) as it gets. He’s playing with some fire today."
Jackson clearly was extra motivated to play well against the Seahawks. He was not only ultra-aggressive, but he also hit with extreme malice. In fact, Seattle wide receiver Rashid Shaheed suffered a concussion on a play that could be deemed questionable by Jackson.
The cornerback forced the wide receiver out of bounds after an 8-yard completion, but Jackson forced Shaheed to the ground well after the two had gone out of bounds. It was then that Shaheed was injured.
No flag was thrown, though, and Mike Jackson likely had no ill intent on the play. The real shame is that he isn't still playing for the Seattle Seahawks because he would be a very good player on Mike Macdonald's defense.
