Jalen Milroe only needed one practice to make the Seahawks nervous

Most everyone likely wants Seattle Seahawks quarterback Jalen Milroe to work out well. He has great athleticism, sure, but by all accounts, Milroe is a fantastic human being who deserves to be treated with respect, as he treats others the same way. But the future of his football career might be in question.

As a rookie last season, he was raw and needed far more development to be able to get valuable snaps for the team in real games. He was used three times in 2025, but never successfully. Plus, in Week 5 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with Seattle driving and in Bucs territory, the Seahawks tried a gimmicky play that had Milroe pitch the ball to Zach Charbonnet, and a fumble ensued.

It was a crucial turnover, as Seattle lost the game in overtime. Had the team scored on the drive, the outcome could have easily been different. The issue is that his indecisiveness was still on display in his first practice of 2026, according to Mike Salk and Maura Dooley of Seattle Sports 710 AM.

Jalen Milroe didn't get off to a great start at Seattle Seahawks 2026 training camp

Instead of trying to throw the ball down the field with confidence, Milroe often checked down. At least he was playing it safe, but the problem is he should feel as if he can, and should, make mistakes in practice. Taking chances and showing off his arm talent is what the Seahawks want to see from the quarterback, as they need to know what he can do if he gets meaningful reps in games.

The other issue is that even on some of the shorter throws, Milroe's accuracy was inconsistent. This is far worse than indecisiveness, which might improve with more reps. His seeming inability to throw on target has been a problem since Milroe was at Alabama, and he simply might not be able to correct the problem.

If he was going to, one would hope that he would have worked diligently during the offseason on correcting his mechanics, and that would transition to a successful early part of camp. So far, so bad. If Jalen Milroe was forced to enter a game, which means something awful has happened to Sam Darnold and Drew Lock, the team might be forced to run the ball every down.

That is obviously no way to have a successful and efficient offense.

What the Seattle Seahawks have to find out in training camp and the preseason, in which Milroe should get the majority of reps overall (Darnold might not even play but a series or two), is whether the second-year quarterback and third-round pick in 2025 can ever help them in real games. If the answer is no, then a tough decision might be needed about the young QB.
