Jamal Adams injury update likely even has Seahawks fans hanging their heads

This is too bad.

The Seattle Seahawks stopped needing Jamal Adams after the 2024 season, but that doesn't mean he was a bad person. His teammates loved him, even while he fought through one injury after another. The issue is that it is still happening.

During his new team's first preseason game, Adams fell to the ground while covering a receiver and had to be helped off the field. His Minnesota Vikings haven't known him long, but were clearly upset. That is proof of how quickly Adams acclimates to a new team. He's respected, maybe more by the people he plays with rather than the people who cheer on those players.

Unfortunately, it wasn't a knee injury for Adams. It was worse. He completely tore a quad muscle, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, and will need a "lengthy" recovery. That probably means Adams is done with his NFL career. He is over 30 years old now and won't be appearing in any games in 2026, at least.

Former Seattle Seahawks' Jamal Adams is done for the year with his new team, the Minnesota Vikings

The defensive back, who was used as an inside linebacker during his one season with the Las Vegas Raiders last season, has been a risky signing for any team since he left Seattle, but he did manage to play all 17 games for Vegas last year.

That was his first full season, or anything close to it, since 2020. In between 2018 and 2025, he appeared in no more than 12 games in a single season, and often more than that. He wasn't benched because of poor play; he simply couldn't play because he was hurt.

The shame is how good Jamal Adams' career might have been had he not been hurt after the Seattle Seahawks sent the New York Jets multiple first-round selections in 2020 to acquire Adams. In his first season with Seattle, he played in just 12 games but had an NFL record by a defensive back with 9.5 sacks.

He was capable of excellence, and he wanted to be brilliant, but his body kept him from that. While no official word has been announced that Adams won't be playing ever again, that seems likely. A completely torn muscle takes a very long time to return from, and the muscle might not be 100 percent even after a player is medically cleared to play.

Hopefully, Adams has earned enough money to make the rest of his life an easy one. Maybe he isn't done taking NFL dollars, but teams were already leery of signing him. After yet another injury, a team taking a chance on him seems even more unlikely.
