Why do we care if former Seattle Seahawks safety Jamal Adams is playing?

Here is a bit of a warning. This article might not be overly nice to former Seattle Seahawks safety Jamal Adams. Has he ever done anything to us personally? No, not yet. But he has to other reporters who cover the NFL, and Adams left his teammates to rot in Week 15 of 2023 after Adams was told he was not going to be active.

Adams has a way of failing but still finds a way to improve himself. Seattle released him last offseason ahead of free agency and the safety/edge rusher/oft-injured player signed with the Tennessee Titans. About midway through the season, when after Adams was recovering from yet another injury, the Titans even said "Ew," and gave Adams his release.

And yet, somehow - somehow - Adams found his way to arguably the best team in the NFL. After Tennessee was thankful to get rid of him, the 11-1 Detroit Lions took a glance at Adams and thought, "Yeah, we can use him." Detroit signed Adams to the practice squad earlier this week, and they almost immediately elevated him to the active roster.

Former Seahawks wash-out Jamal Adams will be active for the Detroit Lions in Week 14

The reason is that Detroit is struggling with defensive injuries. The Lions need Adams to supply literally anything. The issue that Lions fans will likely find out quickly is all the elite explosiveness Adams had early in his career is gone. He is a wretched liability in coverage. If Detroit uses Adams deep in coverage, the team's Week 14 opponent, the Green Bay Packers, will find a way to expose him.

Or maybe Adams turns cruel and actually has a good game. Heck, maybe he gets a pick-six or causes a game-changing fumble, and the Lions win. That might make Seahawks fans sick. But 12s know the truth. Any success Adams has is not sustainable as he will probably get injured again quickly.

We know one thing. Should, at some point, Adams be told that he won't be playing in a game, Lions coach Dan Campbell is not going to tell Adams that, for all intents and purposes, Adams is fine to be upset. Instead, Detroit will just release Adams.
