Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider is not afraid to make moves that he believes will improve his team. He also has a bit more freedom than he did a couple of years ago. When Pete Carroll was the team's head coach, Carroll had the final say over the roster. Schneider does now.
The GM will almost certainly get head coach Mike Macdonald's input, but the final decision is Schneider's. Macdonald doesn't make the roster changes.
The key is how Schneider sees the current makeup of the Seahawks' roster, and whether he thinks he can improve it. In Week 9, there wasn't much to dislike for Seattle football fans or anyone working for the organization. Seattle destroyed the Washington Commanders.
Seattle Seahawks reportedly making a lot of calls ahead of the 2025 trade deadline
But is the current roster a Super Bowl contender? That is up to John Schneider to decide. According to FOX Sports NFL insider Jay Glazer, Schneider might not be totally happy with how Seattle is built. Glazer recently said, "The Seattle Seahawks...are very aggressive right now for several different positions."
The 2025 NFL trade deadline is on Tuesday, November 4, so Seattle could be making a bunch of moves very soon. The "several positions" part is maybe the most interesting aspect. The team doesn't appear to have a need at lots of spots.
Acquiring a veteran right guard who can step in right away, someone like Wyatt Teller of the Cleveland Browns, would make the most sense. Anthony Bradford wasn't terrible in Week 9, but he's been fairly awful the rest of the season. Bradford is the third-lowest-graded guard in the NFL, according to Pro Football Focus (subscription required).
The only question Schneider might have about Bradford is whether he wants to disrupt the cohesion of the offensive line as a whole. The O-line isn't perfect, of course, but it is much better than in previous seasons, especially in terms of pass protection. A bit better run-blocking would be appreciated by everyone, however.
Another edge rusher is always welcome by any team. The Cincinnati Bengals may be shopping Trey Hendrickson now that Cincy is 3-6 after suffering a brutal loss to the Chicago Bears in Week 9. Hendrickson is set to be a free agent in the 2026 offseason.
Adding Hendrickson to a Seahawks group that includes DeMarcus Lawrence, Uchenna Nwosu, Derick Hall, and Boye Mafe would make the unit elite. It may only take a second-round choice to add the Bengals edge rusher, too.
Or maybe the Seattle Seahawks do nothing. If a player is not an obvious upgrade, making a move simply to make a move is bad. John Schneider doesn't normally make those kinds of mistakes.
