No matter whether the Las Vegas Raiders are successful this season under new head coach Klint Kubiak or not, what is clear is that the former Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator knows elite glue guys when he works with them. He appreciated wide receiver Cody White, for instance, and now White is in Vegas.
The receiver was part of Seattle's roster cuts on Sunday, and instead of re-signing with the Seahawks on the practice squad, he made the same move to reunite with Kubiak. To be fair, White might have a better path to being elevated to the Raiders' active roster and playing meaningful snaps than he would have in Seattle.
In the past couple of years in the Pacific Northwest, the wideout wasn't a productive player on offense, but he was very good on special teams, and that is where he will probably make his mark with the Raiders while getting a few offensive snaps eventually.
Seattle Seahawks might regret losing Cody White to the Las Vegas Raiders
One might wonder if general manager John Schneider will regret releasing Cody White in favor of Montorie Foster Jr. The latter hasn't yet played a down in the regular season, and probably won't be as effective in the third phase of the game. The reason White became a bit of a fan favorite with the Seahawks is that he was quick with a smile, a funny guy, and would do anything to help his team win.
He will obviously do the same thing in Vegas, and Klint Kubiak knows that. While the new Raiders head coach might not be in charge of the roster (that would be general manager John Spytek), he clearly would have given input on why the team should sign White to the practice squad.
Kubiak was the offensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks for one season (last year, of course), and in that season the team won the Super Bowl. His offensive direction was a big reason why, as he was able to get the best out of quarterback Sam Darnold. The coach obviously built good relationships with players too.
Cody White might have been able to re-sign with Seattle. The team lost wide receiver Jake Bobo to a knee injury during the preseason, and his absence will hurt the special teams group. White was close to the same level of special teams impact as Bobo, so keeping him on the roster would have made sense. That he joined Kubiak in Las Vegas means he trusts the coach to best understand his skills.
As much as Seahawks fans should rightfully root for their own favorite team, it is OK to have a soft spot for the current Raiders. Just like in 2025, when former Seattle head coach Pete Carroll was leading the team for one year and adding former Seahawks players, Kubiak is helping bring former players to Vegas. This time, though, it is a former fan favorite.
